SOUTH JORDAN, UT —JUNE 1, 2018—Laurel Brown hosted three trials for the SVLAC Futurity on Friday evening, but one trial was all that was needed to produce the three fastest qualifiers. Staubauch, the fastest qualifier, won the second trial by a neck and posted a time of 19.995 for the 330 yard trial distance.

The $15,070 South Valley Futurity final will be held on June 16.

Staubauch was ridden by Jesus Canales for trainer Jere Brinkerhoff; Brinkerhoff also co-owns the gelding with Gabriel Caballo. Ralph and Carolyn Fales bred Staubauch in Arizona, by Texas Icon, out of the Rocky Jones mare Girls Rock.

Staubauch broke his maiden in Friday night’s trial; his only previous start was a second-place finish in a trial for the Hadley/Giles Memorial Futurity at Weber Downs in May.

Second in the same trial was Jess a Success, the second-fastest qualifier in 17.038. Humberto Murrilo, the trainer and owner, teamed up with jockey Alan Miramontes for the second time with Jess a Success, who has now placed second in both lifetime starts. Like Staubauch, Jess a Success also debuted in a trial for the Hadley/Giles Memorial Futurity.

Jess a Success was bred in New Mexico by Mike Abraham. The 2-year-old colt is a son of Jess a Chicks, and is out of Bp Snowy Success, by Cartel Success.

A neck behind the leaders in the second trial was the third fastest qualifier, Jumpin Jeter. The Utah-bred gelding, with Uriel Dominguez aboard, posted a final time of 17.131.

Jumpin Jeter is owned and bred by Brent Howa, by Class Jump, out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Bc Sassy Dash. Chad Giles trains Jumpin Jeter, who made his debut in the South Valley Futurity trial.

The winner of the first trial, Jsgacartellainheels, and Danny Marshall, posted the fourth fastest qualifying time of 17.222 as a gate to wire winner for trainer and owner Jay Giles. Shane Giles bred the filly in Utah by Cartella Star, out of Rp Hi Heel Sneakers, by Splash Bac.
