Shes Got Fire Saves Best for Last as Fastest Qualifier to the Four Corners Futurity

FARMINGTON, NM—JUNE 1, 2018—The fastest qualifier to the Four Corners Futurity came out of the fourth and final trial of the card as Shes Got Fire posted a time of 17.543 for 350 yards. The $25,000-added final will be held at SunRay on June 17.

Shes Got Fire, with Felipe Garcia-Luna aboard, made her career debut in her Four Corners Futurity trial, but looked like a professional as she scored a wire-to-wire victory by 1 ¼ lengths.

If the filly’s impressive win looked familiar, it may be because of her breeding: her dam is the Walk Thru Fire mare Separate Fire, a precocious multiple graded stakes winner whose career accomplishments include wins in the 2011 Kindergarten and Ed Burke Million futurities at Los Alamitos.

The Corona Cartel filly was bred in Utah by McColee Land & Livestock. Justin Joiner trains for owner Wallace Johnson.

The fastest qualifiers bookended the trials, as the second and third fastest qualifiers both came out of the first trial at SunRay on Friday evening.

Jmf Dasher won the first trial by a neck over Cm Rowdy James. The post-time favorite picked up a final time of 17.605. Alejandro Medellin had the call for trainer Jose Gonzales, Sr and owner Vicente Contreras.

Jmf Dasher was bred in Texas by Joe Flores; the son of Tempting Dash is out of Silly Chix, by Shazoom.

The Four Corners trial was the fourth career start for Jmf Dasher. He broke his maiden in a trial for the West Texas Futurity (G2) at Sunland Park and qualified for the final, finishing in sixth place. He is two for four lifetime with career earnings of $21,321.

At odds of 14-1, Cm Rowdy James just missed behind Jmf Dasher in the first trial and clocked a third fastest time of 17.655. The Jesse James Jr gelding was also making his debut in the SunRay trial.

Manuel Gutierrez rode for trainer Gaston Valenzuela and owner Nadine Maben. Bred in New Mexico by the Currie J. Maben Estate, Cm Rowdy James is out of Christinas Crystal, by Mr Eye Opener.
