Easy Ap Bella Breaks Maiden as Fastest Qualifier to 89 and Under Final at Laurel Brown

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—JUNE 1, 2018—Though the Apollitical Jess filly had hit the board in many of her career starts, Easy Ap Bella broke her maiden and earned the fastest qualifying time to the 89 and Under All-Breed Allowance at Laurel Brown.

Two trials on Friday evening determined the field for the $13,810 final, to be held on June 16. The trials were restricted to 3-year-olds and up that have run a speed index of 89 or less as of October 31, 2017.

Jesus Virgen and Easy Ap Bella hopped at the start but recovered to win by a neck with a final time of 17.707 in 350 yards. Raul Moreno owns and trains the 3-year-old filly. Easy Ap Bella made her third start of 2018 at Laurel Brown, after two starts at Weber in May. Prior to coming out to Utah, she competed in trials for the Heritage Place Futurity at Remington and the Valley Junction Futurity at Prairie Meadows.

Easy Ap Bella was bred in Oklahoma by Michael and Gail Ahern, out of the Stoli mare Easy Downhill.

The first of two trials produced the second fastest qualifier with Favorite Wonder and his final time of 17.718. Cordarelton Benn rode the Favorite Cartel colt to a one-length victory for trainer Glade Van Tassell.

Favorite Wonder was bred in Utah by his owner, Gary Carmichael. He is out of the Heza Fast Man mare Gone Not Forgotten. The lightly raced 3-year-old was making just his fourth lifetime start, and his win in Friday’s trial was his first career victory.

Candy Cartels Okay led his entire trial until he was caught at the wire by Easy Ap Bella. Candy Cartels Okay, with jockey Jesus Valenzuela aboard, was the third fastest qualifier with a time of 17.776.

Candy Cartels Okay was bred in Oklahoma by the Estate of Carl Pevehouse. He is by Cartels Candy Man, out of This Candys Okay, by Okey Dokey Dale, and is owned by his trainer, Luis Gonzalez. Still a maiden in five starts, this was the gelding’s third consecutive runner-up finish.
