OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JUNE 2, 2018—The Grade 2, $53,300 Remington Park Distance Championship was won by Blazen Panther who used an inside post position to his advantage, pulling away to a 1-1/4 length win.
Blazen Panther won his second straight race around the turn at 870 yards this season at Remington Park. Owned and trained by Luz Chavira of Purcell, Okla., the 7-year-old gelding was ridden by Daniel Torres who gave huge credit to his veteran for a professional performance.
"He got a good jump on the field and that’s what he needed to get himself a good spot and save ground. He did and he just kept running. Once we got to the straightaway I just asked him for a little bit more and he pulled away. He handled the trip perfect."
Blazen Panther was clear into the stretch and had plenty left to hold off the rally of Zoomin Racer who finished second as the beaten 4-5 betting favorite. Jess A Hilbily Bone was third, three lengths behind the winner.
Away at odds of 7-1 in the wagering, Blazen Panther paid $16.80 to win, $5.80 to place and $3.20 to show. Zoomin Racer paid $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Jess A Hilbily Bone, winner of the Remington Park Distance Championship in 2017, paid $3.20 to show.
