SELMA, TX—JULY 27, 2018—In the $15,000 Jones Bloodstock Insurance Starter Stakes, Hotscotch N Courage, owned by Victor J. Rojas, went gate-to-wire in the first feature of the evening.

The 4-year-old mare by Captain Courage out of the Jumpn mare Hopscotch was bred in Texas by Pamela Stone. Breaking alertly from post position five under Francisco Ramirez, Jr., she crossed the wire of the 350-yard sprint in :18.097, prevailing by a margin of a half a length.

This was the fourth win from 11 starts for the bay mare who was claimed last fall at Lone Star Park for $5,000 by trainer Manuel C. Roman. Rio Special Jr with Claudio Aguilar in the irons, finished second, followed by Sonic Dashing Pool and DM Mighty La Jolla.

Hotscotch N Courage delivered at odds of 8-1 rewarding her supporters with a win payout of $18.00. She earned $9,000, increasing her lifetime bankroll to $37,685.
