Rocky Heinzig Victory Marks Fifth Straight Win for Jess Bein The Hero

TULSA, OK—JULY 27, 2018—Jess Bein The Hero’s Fair Meadows debut was a winning one, and the 5-year-old horse picked up his fifth consecutive win in the $17,500 Rocky Heinzig Stakes on Friday night in Tulsa.

The win was also his tenth win in just 13 starts. Jorge Linares, who has been on the horse for his last two races, was aboard again at Fair Meadows.

Jess Bein The Hero ($4.00) was a heavy favorite in the 350-yard race and won by a neck in 17.547 for a 96 speed index. He is trained by Josue Ponce for owner Juan Martinez-Labastida.

Jess Bein The Hero was bred in Texas by Curtis Crenwelge, by Valiant Hero and out of the graded stakes placed mare Jess Braggin, by Mr Jess Perry. His win streak dates back to October 2017 and includes three tracks: Fair Meadows, Evangeline, and Sam Houston, where he won the Grade 2 Bank of America Sam Houston Championship Challenge by two and a half lengths.

His rare losses include two second place finishes, and he has amassed career earnings of $152,870.

Eye Eye Captain and Rolando Raudales dueled down the stretch but were no match for the winning duo. Eye Eye Captain finished over a length ahead of third place finisher Sr Fly Baby.

The 4-year-old daughter of Captain Courage is a homebred for David Clonts, bred in Oklahoma out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Eye My Alexis. Eye Eye Captain recently won the $17,000 Belle Stakes at Fair Meadows, and she finished second in the same race last year, though was later awarded first place purse money. The multiple stakes winner has earnings of nearly $90,000 and hails form the Guillermo Valdivia barn.

Leading the rest of the pack in a close charge for third place was Sr Fly Baby and Gonzalo Gutierrez. Also a 4-year-old filly, Sr Fly Baby last ran in June at Fair Meadows and defeated Eye Eye Captain in an allowance race at 350 yards.

Sr Fly Baby is trained by Manuel Mata for owner Glacia Fagan. She was bred in Oklahoma by Meredith Jovetta, by FDD Dynasty and out of the Strawfly Special mare Once Upon a Fly.

Completing the field were Mighty Tamale, Whosgonegirl, Shaky Hero, Jc Wild Rose, Jessie Marie and Justonemore. Ima China Rush was scratched.
