SELMA, TX—JULY 27, 2018—A competitive field of sprinters put on an exciting show in the $35,000 TQHA 250 Stakes. DM La Jolla, owned by Horses of Fire, Inc., blazed to victory in :13.198 seconds, besting a track record of :13.259 set on July 27, 2012 by Executive Tone.
Trained by Porfirio Fierro, the 4-year-old gelding by Hiclass La Jolla was bred by Donna Mushinski and won the 250-yard Delta Dash on April 20. Jockey Rolando Cabrera has been aboard the Texas-bred for his last three starts and gave him another confident ride tonight. He is out of the Prime Talent mare Dm Bella Mia.
Sent off as the favorite in the ten-horse field, DM La Jolla paid $6.40 for the win; earning his fifth career victory. With the winner’s share of $21,000, he has banked $91,379.
Runner-up The Golden Bowl races for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr. and trainer Juan Diaz, Jr. Damien Martinez was aboard the graded stakes winning son of Mr Eye Opener from the Dashin Bye mare First Dashin Bye. Bred by Jorge Meraz, The Golden Bowl picked up $7,000 to bring his bankroll total to $54,372.
Jess Gone Streakin, a 5-year-old son of Gone To The Mountain, picked up $3,850 for his third-place finish. Roberto Madrigal saddled the bay gelding for owner Carlos Gabriel Castro. Jockey Eleazar Hernandez was aboard the Clyde Woemer-bred from the Mr Jess Perry mare Streak For Us Jessep. He has earned $28,892.
Jazzin Corona, Thirsty Monkey, Nexxus, Zenergetic, The Ram Cartel, Honey Ryder B and Dash Dont Cheat completed the field.
