Midnite Dash Best in Mile High Futurity Trials, Fantastic Minion Fastest in Mile High Derby

Midnite Dash Best in Mile High Futurity Trials, Fantastic Minion Fastest in Mile High Derby

AUORA, CO—JULY 27, 2018—Arapahoe Park hosted five trials for the $100,000-est. Mile High Futurity and four trials for the $90,000-est. Mile High Derby on Friday's race card.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from each set of trials, will return to the Colorado racetrack on Sunday, August 12th to vie for the winner's share of each event to be contested over 400 yards.

Mile High Futurity Trials

Coming off a maiden win under wraps in his first career start on June 10, Midnite Dash rolled a 2-¼ length win in the second of five trials on Friday to get the top qualifying time for the Mile High Futurity at Arapahoe Park.

Under jockey Jhaciel Soto, Midnite Dash broke best then extended his lead throughout to stop the timer in :19.538 seconds, a 103 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind, to get the top qualifying mark.

Trainer Hipolito Michel-Valverde saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Bodacious Dash for owners Pedro and Lilia Andazola. Richard and Genevieve Herrman bred the black gelding, who is now a perfect 2-for-2, in Colorado from the Panther Mountain mare Dg Sumit.

AQRA Spring Fling Futurity winner Tyson Gay got his third win in as many starts in the final trial under jockey Eddie Aceves with an equally impressive 3-¼ length win to post the second fastest clocking of :19.637 seconds, a 101 speed index into a 10 mph crosswind.

Trainer Deborah Lynn Boyd saddled the California-bred son of champion Foose for owner David Sanchez. A $10,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate, Tyson Gay was bred by Steve D. Burns, DVM from the Hawkinson mare Hawk Kue Pie. The gray gelding has banked $19,619 in his three starts this season.

Mile High Derby Trials

Western States Breeders' Futurity winner Fantastic Minion rolled to a 1-½ length win in the third trial on Friday for the Mile High Derby to set the top qualifying mark.

Ridden by jockey Nakia Ramirez, Fantastic Minion rolled over the 400 yards with a 20 mph tailwind to stop the clock at :19.647 seconds, a 99 speed index.

Jay Pitcher conditions the Utah-bred son of Fantastic Corona Jr for owners Kirk Woolf and Ralph Hartline. Bred by Woolf, from the Dash To Chivato mare Gigarad, Fantastic Minion has compiled a (10) 4-1-2 record and banked more than $52,430. Earlier this year he was third in the Energy Downs Bonus Challenge Stakes and last season the buckskin gelding also qualified to the Bitterroot Futurity.

Dee Favorite Girl finished half-a-length in front of Tf Carters Pick in the third trial to get the second fastest time of :17.731 seconds, a 97 speed index with an 18 mph tailwind.

Alfredo Triana, Jr. had the riding call aboard the daughter of multiple stakes sire Favorite Cartel for owner Santos Lopez and trainer Miguel Pena.

Bred in Oklahoma by Dee and Betty Raper, from the Mr Eye Opener mare Eyema Blue Girl, Dee Favorite Girl was a finalist in the Rocky Mountain Derby last month. Also a finalist in the Grade 2 Hobbs America Futurity she has earned over $34,200.
