A Toast To Brindis Earns Another Stakes Win in KC Carden Memorial Wyoming Bred Derby

EVANSTON, WY—JULY 28, 2018—The fastest qualifier from three trials on July 14, A Toast To Brindis returned as the gate-to-wire winner in the $21,250 KC Carden Memorial Wyoming Bred Derby at Wyoming Downs on Saturday afternoon.

With Cordarelton Benn aboard, A Toast To Brindis ($5.60) finished a half-length ahead of Kr American Pi and posted a time of 17.575 in 350 yards for a 95 speed index.

The time in the final was faster than the gelding’s qualifying time of 17.611.

Saturday’s win was the seventh lifetime win for the son of Brindis Por Cayenne and it was his third stakes win. A Toast To Brindis has lost just once in five starts in 2018, a second-place finish in the Wyoming Bred Derby at Energy Downs to Dust Stone, who finished third in the KC Carden Memorial.

A Toast To Brindis is trained by Jesse Villegas. Owner Gerald Kaul also bred the gelding in Wyoming, out of A Secret Life, by Beduino Secret.

Kr American Pi and Tyson Lusk surged home by a nose for a second-place finish. The One Sweet Jess gelding was third in his trial and was the tenth fastest qualifier. He has just one win but has finished in the money in six of his ten lifetime starts.

Kr American Pi is trained by Dru Hall for owner Wy Knot Stables. He was bred by Ryan, Katie and Mary Kyler, out of the Hawkinson mare Kr American Girl.

Third place finisher Dust Stone was the third fastest qualifier and won his trial for Saturday’s Derby. The only horse to defeat A Toast to Brindis in 2018, Dust Stone had won his previous two starts and is three for 13 lifetime.

Jesus Valenzuela has been aboard for all the gelding’s career wins to date and returned to ride him in the final for trainer Riley Moosman.

Dust Stone was bred by his owner, Jim Nebeker, by by First Prize Stone, and out of the Snowbound mare Dreaming Snow.

Completing the field were Innosent Cat, Favorite Fire Boy, Foose Dust, Little Amg, Cente Version, Switching to 307 and Tanquery Dash.
