Texas Shipper Anasttasia Fastest in Iowa Double Gold Futurity Trials

Texas Shipper Anasttasia Fastest in Iowa Double Gold Futurity Trials

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 18, 2018—Texas-bred Anasttasia made her first start outside of the state a winning one, defeating Decapi Kid by over two lengths as the fastest qualifier to the $150,565 Iowa Double Gold Futurity at Prairie Meadows on opening weekend.

Anasttasia ($5.20), with Bonifacio Quiroz aboard, won the first of three trials for the 350-yard final, scheduled for September 1. Her time of 17.646 earned the filly a speed index of 95.

The daughter of The Louisiana Cartel broke her maiden in her trial win, her first career win in five lifetime starts. She had previously qualified for the $479,196 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG3) at Retama in July.

Anasttasia is trained by Clinton Crawford for owner Jorge Haddad, who also bred the filly out of the multiple graded stakes placed mare Las Alamitos, by First Down Dash.

The second fastest qualifier was the winner of the second trial, Hr Back in the Day. Hr Back in the Day and jockey Jorge Torres defeated post-time favorite Another Overdraft by three-quarters of a length and posted a time of 17.770.

Hr Back in the Day is trained by Stacy Charette-Hill for Hammer Ranch, who also bred the colt in Oklahoma. The colt is by Freighttrain B, out of the Thoroughbred mare What A Justice, by Rare Brick.

This was the third lifetime start for Hr Back in the Day, who debuted at Remington and broke his maiden at Canterbury Park in June in a wire-to-wire win.

Choochoowannaboogie posted the third fastest time, 17.837, as the winner of the third and final trial. Choochoowannaboogie ($6.00) was the post-time favorite despite making his fourth career start as a maiden. Also sired by Freighttrain B, the gelding raced three times at Remington and last raced on the first day of June.

Roberto Valero was aboard Choochoowannaboogie for the first time, and the duo wwon by half a length and earned a speed index of 90.

Choochoowannaboogie is trained by Shawna Manriquez for owner Harley Moser. He was bred in Oklahoma by Lake and Ledona Newcomb, out of the Shazoom mare Zooming Affair.
