Timbersknightryder Flies Late To Win Alberta Bred Futurity

ROCKY VIEW, ALB—SEPTEMBER 22, 2018—Timbersknightryder, under jockey Ramiro Castillo, flew late to defeat Royal Special by half-a-length in Saturday's $43,529(US) Alberta Bred Futurity at Century Downs.

The son of leading Canadian sire First Timber completed the 350 yard task, over a muddy track into an 8 mph crosswind, in :18.078 seconds. It was the third win four starts for the bay gelding and the Alberta winners' purse of $20,314(US) boosted his earnings mark to $26,600.

James Doolin conditions Timbersknightryder, who entered the futurity final as the fastest qualifier from the September 3 trials, for owner Tony Laczo. Isaak Fehr bred the 2-year-old from the Hez Choice Property mare Sparkling Hy. His only loss this season was a fourth-place effort in the $15,313(US) Jerry Stojan Memorial Stakes at Grande Prairie.

Royale Special picked up $7,674(US) for finishing second under jockey Neville Stephenson. Trainer Tom Kenway saddled the gray son of Special Fly Bye, from the Royal Quick Dash mare Shawnee Royale, for owner Triple C Performance Horses. Buckey and Beverly Stockwell is the breeder.

O Kingsley, another son of First Timber, finished half-a-length back to earn $4,514(US) for owner-breeder and trainer Wesley Oulton. Second in the John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge and a finalist in the Jerry Stojan Memorial Stakes, O Kingsley has earned $15,179 this season. He is out of the El Rey Burner mare Burners Beauty. Cesar Cervantes had the riding call.

JB Easy First Down, Goldin Warrior, Phenomabomb, Blue Jean Day Dream, Shesa Ivory Girl, Sasses Quick Silver and Last Unicorn completed the field.
