Bringonthewave Holds Sway In Alberta Bred Derby

ROCKY VIEW, ALB—SEPTEMBER 22, 2018—Last year's Alberta Bred Futurity(RG3) winner quickly went to the front and held the sway late over Gone To Be Bright in the $27,220(US) Alberta Bred Derby Saturday afternoon at Century Downs.

Ridden by jockey Ramiro Castillo, Bringonthewave completed the 400 yards, over a muddy racecourse and into an 8 mph headwind, in :20.257 seconds. The win was worth $12,273(US).

James Doolin trains the son of world champion Wave Carver for owner Dale Zukowski. Shady Lane Stables bred the gray gelding from the Corona Cartel mare Special Corona. Bringonthewave has compiled a (13) 7-1-2 record and earned $60,658.

William Leech saddled runner-up Gone To Be Bright for owners Gonetothebrightside Syndicate. The son of Gone To The Mountain got away well under Ricardo Moreno and closed willing to finish half-a-length off the winner, earning $4,674(US) for the effort. Jack and Deborah Williams bred the earner of $14,472 from the Dj Bright Déjà vu mare Dj Bright Tarbaby.

First Prize Cruise broke inward but rallied late under jockey Martin Ortiz to earn $2,750(US) for third. Tom Kenway owns, trains and is the breeder of the First Prize Doc mare out of Eye Cruise by Eye Take Time. The stakes-placed 3-year-old and earned $22,131.

Machete, Llomars Dream, Thisbudsforyou, The Western Special, Atomic Blondie and Shawnee Cartel completed the field.
