High Time To Fly was the first of three Jim Bader Futurity qualifiers ridden by jockey Bonifacio Quiroz Friday night at Prairie Meadows.

High Time To Fly Soars To Top Mark in Jim Bader Futurity Trials

ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 28, 2018—High Time To Fly picked the right time to break his maiden when he won the second of three trials for Jim Bader Futurity by 1-¼ lengths Friday night at Prairie Meadows.

Under jockey Bonifacio Quiroz High Time To Fly completed the 350 yards in :17.867 seconds on a "good" racing surface with a 5 mph crosswind to get the top qualifying time.

It was the first career win in three starts for the Alex Wessels trained brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Ajs High. Jeff State owns the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Rare Form mare Regally Rare. Bred by Michael Teel, the bay gelding has compiled a (3) 1-1-0 record and banked $9,015.

Wessels who trains four of the 10 Jim Bader qualifiers, also conditioned 4th fastest qualifier Streakin Jesszee for Jeff Slate. The son of the #2 all-time leading sire Mr Jess Perry was a three-quarter length winning in the opening trial with a qualifying time of :17.935 seconds.

Bred by the late Joe Allen and Dallas Blakley, Streakin Jesszee is out of the Gol mare Golly Zee. He was also getting his first career win three starts.

Manuel Mojica Campos saddled Joe Go Forest Go to a three/quarter length win in the last trial to get the second fastest time of :17.873 seconds.

Jonathan Dominguez had the riding call aboard the Gol gelding owned by Casey Veach. Bred by Joe B. Allen, from the Mr Jess Perry mare Ja Impetuosuly, Ja Go Fore Go has won two of four starts this season and banked $14,333.

Ima Foxy Captain finished second in the final trial to get the 3rd fastest mark of :17.927 seconds. Berkley Packer rode the Captain Courage gelding for owner/breeder Christine Hovey and trainer Edward Ross Hardy.

Still a maiden, Im A Fox Captain has fnished second twice in four starts this season. He is out of the Valiant Hero mare Foxy Millie.

Stacy Charette-Hill was the only other trainer to get multiple qualifiers to the Jim Bader. Both qualifiers, 5th fastest Lil Quick Wagon and 8th fastest Lil Upity are by leading Iowa-based sire Lil Kool Wagon.

Apollitical Jess also sired two qualifiers.

The 10 fastest from the 21 head competing in Friday's three trials will return to Prairie Meadows on Saturday, October 13th to vie for the winner' share of a $175,000-est. purse going 350 yards.
