Rarin Surprises In Grade 2 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes at Zia Park

HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 29, 2018—Rarin, at (9-1), put in a sharp effort under jockey Juan Pulido, to defeat Apollitical Ok by a 1-¼ lengths in the $50,000 Grade 2 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes Saturday afternoon at Zia Park. Swiss White Wine finished half-a-length back in third.

Saddled by trainer Fernando Carrete, Rarin completed the 350 yards in a quick :17.278 clocking, a 107 speed index into a 6 mph crosswind. It was the ninth career win for the son of champion Inseperable.

Racing for owner Olaya Munoz Duarte, Rarin's last win was in the Mighty Deck Three Stakes at Remington Park in March. Today's $30,000 winners' purse boosted his earnings to $174,180. Kathleen Matey bred Rarin in Oklahoma from the Rare Form mare Rare Kayoh.

Apollitical OK picked up $11,000 for his second-place effort. Trainer Joel Valeriano, Jr. saddled the 5-year-old son of Apollitical Jess for himself and Oscar Dominguez. James and Marilyn Helzer bred the graded stakes winner in Oklahoma form the Fishers Dash mare Taka Puna. Ridden by Jose Alvarez, Apollitical OK has earned $272,754.

Third-place finisher Swiss White Wine races for owner Mario Lujan and trainer Arnulfo Valdez. The 4-year-old son of Swissle Stick (TB) is out of the AQHA Racing Champion mare Alice K White by First Down Dash. Bred by MJ Farms, Swiss White Wine earned $5,000 for the effort. Jaime Leos was riding.

Tough To Bee, Mojo Perry, C Twister Seis, Boogies Special Dash, Carris Cartel, One Fantastic Gal and Myst Fit completed the field.
