PORTLAND, OR—OCTOBER 7, 2018—Sneakin Tr bobbled the start under veteran jockey Robert Burney then drew off to defeat For Sweet Jess by one-length in the $14,350 Directors Handicap (not black type) Sunday afternoon at Portland Meadows. Jacango finished another length back in third.
Conditioned by trainer Scott Raley, the 5-year-old son of Tr Dasher completed the 350 yard "wet fast" course in :17.942 seconds, equaling a 97 speed index.
Racing for owner Connie Chumbley, Sneakin Tr is an Oregon homebred for Gary Chumbley, The gelding pushed his record to (36) 8-11-6 and the $7,175 Directors' win purse boosted his bankroll to $55,962. Sneakin Tr is out of the Splash Bac mare Sneak Bac.
Hopped at the start, graded-placed For Sweet Jess picked up $3,588 for owner Sanguino Racing LLC by finishing second. Jose Sanguino trains the One Sweet Jess 5-year-old out of For Some Cash by Chicks Beduino. Jockey David Martin had the riding call aboard the $99,970 earner. K & R Allred Ranch LLC is the breeder.
Jancango, an Oregon-bred son of Spit Curl Jess from the Stoli mare Hannas Halo earned $1,794 for his third-place finish. Elodio Madrigal trains the bay 6-year-old for owner Frederico Ortiz. J.C. Estrada was aboard the Michael and Shannon McKay bred gelding.
I Aint Callin, Flyin Rocks, Morning Brew, L Bar D Genuine Red, L Bar D Sweet Fantasy, Jl Rebel, Favorite Hawk and L Bar D Bonnie Lee completed the field.
