AJAX, ONT—OCTOBER 8, 2018—Multiple stakes winner Country Boy 123 got his seventh straight win and kept his 2018 record a perfect 6-for-6 on Monday when he defeated Albertt by half-a-length in the $65,216(US) Alex Picov Memorial Championship Maturity at Ajax Downs.
The 6-year-old son of champion Country Chicks Man broke sharp under jockey Cory Spataro on his way to completing the "classic" Quarter Horses distance of 440 yards in :21.670 second.
Over a "muddy" course he equaled a 102 speed index with an 8 mph tailwind. Ruth Barbour owns-and-trains the gray gelding who has compiled a (26) 18-4-0 record. The Championship winners' purse boosted his lifetime earnings to $257,522.
Bred in Michigan by Carolyn Bay, from the Dash Thru Traffic mare Very Dashin 123, Country Boy 123 has not finished worse than second since a fourth-place effort the Grade 3 AQHA Derby Challenge Championship at Los Alamitos Race Course in the Fall of 2016.
Countrys Comin Bac, also a 5-year-old son of Country Chicks Man, finished another half-length back to pick up $13,875US. Owned-and-trained by Ralph Person, Countrys Comin Bac was ridden by jockey Ramiro Castillo. Bred in Ontario by Marko Naterer, the multiple stakes-placed gelding has earned $103,910.
Maryland Magic, Fiesty Icon, Denali Teller Off and One Famous Glass completed the field.
