AJAX, ONT—OCTOBER 8, 2018—Stablemates Spy For The Senate and Stripper Dust finished 1-2 for trainer Jason Pascoe and owner Milena Kwiecien Monday afternoon in the $77,039(US) Alex Picov Memorial Futurity at Ajax Downs.
After breaking last under jockey Cerapio Figueroa, fastest qualifier Spy For The Senate ran down his stablemate Stripper Dust getting his head in front just in time. The :20.100 clocking for the 400 yards over a "muddy" course with an 8 mph tailwind equaled a 96 speed index.
Following two starts at Remington Park in April, Spy For The Senate broke his maiden at Ajax in June, then finished second in the Bonus Challenge Futurity.
Today's victory is the third win in seven starts for the son of multiple stakes sire Louisiana Senator and the $30,815(US) Picov winners' purse brings the colt's earnings up to $42,4456. Mary Hainline bred the stakes winner in Oklahoma from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Spy.
The owner (Kwiecien)-trainer (Pascoe) also finished 6th with Teller Im High and last with Code Name Valor in today's Alex Picov Memorial Futurity.
Ontario-bred Shes Sizzling finished a neck back in the blanket finish to earn $7,704(US) for third. A home bred daughter of multiple stakes sire Sizzlin Cartel, Shes Sizzling races for owner-breeder Joyce and Erik Lehtinen. Also trained by Erick, the bay filly from the Eyesa Special mare Shenandoah Special has banked $30,715 this season. Ramiro Castillo was riding.
Chicksdigmymoneybags, Jess A Sweet Suprize, Teller Im High, Rey Of The Night, Five Bar Fandango and Code Name Valor. Gatlinberg was scratched.
