Sharp Effort Gives Siximoons Top Qualifying Time In New Mexico Cup Derby Trials

HOBBS, NM—OCTOBER 14, 2018—With a sharp effort under jockey Adrian Ramos, multiple stakes-placed Siximoons sailed to a 1-½ length win in the last of three trials contested Sunday afternoon for the $200,000-est. New Mexico Cup Derby(RG2) at Zia Park.

The first of three qualifiers by leading sire First Moonflash, Siximoons completed the 440 yards, with a 25 mph tailwind, in :21.524 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index and setting the top mark from 30 state-breds who participated in the trials.

Trainer Rodolfo Valles saddled the gelding for owners Jerry Bailey and Tres Mesa Horses. Siximoons has compiled a (17) 4-3-1 record and banked nearly $95,000. He was second in the New Mexico HBA Stakes(RG2) at Sunland Park in January, third in the By By JJ Stakes at Ruidoso and 4th in last year's New Mexico Cup Futurity(RG2) at Zia Park at 2.

Mike Abraham bred the sorrel gelding from the Jumpn are Stevie Six.

Multiple graded-placed Hollywoodcrown posted a half-length win in the second trial under jockey Porfirio Cano to get the second fastest time of :21.538, also a 101 speed index with a 20 mph tailwind. A homebred owned-and-trained by veteran trainer Fred Danley, the daughter of champion sire Heza Motor Scooter has won five of 16 career starts and banked $128,525.

Out of the Thoroughbred mare Hollywood Gone by Gone Hollywood, the brown filly entered the trials off a second-place effort in the New Mexico State Fair Breeders' Derby last month. She was also third in the New Mexico Breeders Stakes(RG2) and the New Mexico Cup Futurity(RG2).

All American Juvenile winner Jesse Lane rolled to a 1-¼ length win in the opening trial to secure the 4th fastest clocking of :21.642 seconds, a 98 speed index with a 25 mph tailwind. Trainer James Padgett, II conditions the son of leading New Mexico sire Jesse James Jr for owner/breeders MJ Farms.

A winner of four of 10 career starts, Jesse Lane has earning $197,762. He was second in the RG1 Zia Futurity at Ruidoso Downs last summer. Jockey Alonso Rivera was aboard the sorrel gelding out of Champagne Lane by Lanes Leinster.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Zia Park on Sunday, November 4 and vie for the winner's share of the $200,000-est. purse going 440 yards.
