Mr Master Bug Stakes Won By Vf Jedi Returns

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 20, 2019—VF Jedi Returns bounced back from a disappointing fifth-place effort in the $255,750 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park on March 23, to score in the $73,000 Mr Master Bug Stakes on Saturday night.

Owned by Julio Contreras of Laredo, Texas and trained by Sammy Valdivia, VF Jedi Returns was ridden by Juan Pulido to win by a head over Little Kool Belle. The 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred covered the 350 yards in :17.609 over a fast track, earning an American Quarter Horse Association Speed Index of 87. Americas Dynasty was three-quarters of a length behind the winner in third.

Away from the gate at 5-2 odds, VF Jedi Returns paid $11.60 to win, $6.20 to place and $3.60 to show. Little Kool Belle returned $4.80 to place and $3.60 to show. Americas Dynasty was the beaten 9-5 wagering favorite and paid $2.60 to show.

A gelding by multiple stakes sire High Rate Of Return from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Couture, VF Jedi Returns picked up $40,800 for the Mr Master Bug triumph to push his career earnings to $163,420. He has now won seven of 11 career starts with five victories at Remington Park.

Runner-up Little Kool Barbie races for owner/breeders Stacy Hill and Leann Burns. Hill also trains the daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon from the Mr Jess Perry mare Little Kool Barbie. The multiple stakes-placed filly increased her earnings to $143,996 after picking up $12,600 tonight. Jorge Torres was up.

Dunn Ranch's Americas Dynasty earned $6,930 for third. R.L. Rick Robinson conditions the daughter of world champion sire FDD Dynasty from the Shazoom mare Marys Southern Policy. Jockey Augustin Silva was aboard the Matt Dunn Oklahoma-bred.

Tarish, Saratoga Return, Js History Lesson, Throw Th Dice, Jess Let It B, Pops Tempting Wagon and My Take completed the field.

The Mr Master Bug is named after the 1982 All American Futurity winner who was bred and owned by Marvin and Lela Barnes of Ada, Okla. Mr Master Bug earned American Quarter Horse Champion honors in three consecutive years from 1982-1984 and retired with more than $1.7 million in earnings.
