Texas Tornadoe Prevails in Mingus Mountain Stakes at Arizona Downs

PRESCOTT, AZ—AUGUST 3, 2019—Adding another stakes win to her record, Texas Tornadoe pulled ahead by a neck to win the $10,000 Mingus Mountain Stakes (not black-type) at Arizona Downs on Saturday afternoon.

The final time for the 300-yard stake was 15.339; Texas Tornadoe and jockey Luis Valenzuela earned a 108 speed index.

Texas Tornadoe ($7.60) is owned by Angel Valenzuela and trained by Raul Valenzuela. She was bred in Arizona by Ralph and Carolyn Fales, by Texas Icon and out of It’s a Dry Heat, by Dixieland Heat.

A multiple stakes winner, the 4-year-old filly won the AQRA Southwest Futurity and the AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity in 2017. She was a qualifier to the Desert Classic Futurity that year and competed in the Bank of America Championship Challenge Stakes at Turf Paradise this spring. In her start prior to the Mingus Mountain, she was third in the Wayne Brasher Memorial Stakes. She has earned over $50,000 in her career to date.

Takoradi chased but could not catch the leader in time. The 6-year-old horse was ridden by Kevin Carbajal for trainer Umberto Belloc; Abram Belloc owns. He was bred in Texas by Bobby Cox, out of the First Down Dash mare All About Ease.

Takoradi has four career wins and earnings or $24,552. Prior to the Mingus Mountain Stakes, he was second in the Wayne Brasher Memorial Stakes in June, also at Arizona Downs. As a 2-year-old, he qualified to the Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge (G3).

One of the longest shots in the field, Liddle Doc with jockey Jake Samuels aboard finished in third by a nose.

Liddle Doc is a 6-year-old gelding by FDD Dynasty and out of the Pritzi Dash mare Her Dashiness, bred in Arizona by J & M Farm LLC. He is owned by John and Mary Allred; John Allred also trains.

Liddle Doc is multiple stakes placed with over $22,000 in career earnings, including a recent second place finish in the Turf Paradise Quarter Horse Championship Stakes in December.

Completing the field were May Be Fantastic Sa, Jess Gone Streaking, Be Quiet, Dig Deeper and Looken Good.
