Haul Your Wood Tops Trials to Iowa Stallion Futurity at Prairie Meadows

ALTOONA, IA— AUGUST 18, 2019—In his career debut, Haul Your Wood overcame post-time favorite Lil Kool Lips to win the second and final trial for the Iowa Stallion Futurity at Prairie Meadows on Sunday afternoon.

Haul Your Wood ($18.00) and Justin Shepherd finished the 350-yard trial in 18.191 and earned a 79 speed index. The $100,000-estimated final will be held on September 1 and is restricted to state-bred 2-year-olds sired by stallions standing in Iowa during the 2016 breeding season.

Haul Your Wood is a 2-year-old gelding by Lil Kool Wagon, out of Fly Around Chueca, by Talkalota Bull. Lil Kool Wagon sired six of the ten qualifiers, including the two fastest qualifiers, Haul Your Wood and Lil Kool Lips.

Bred in Iowa by David Spieker, Haul Your Wood is trained by Wayne Garner and is owned by Lisa Baumeister.

Second place finisher and second fastest qualifier Lil Kool Lips led throughout the trial before she was caught at the wire by the winner. The filly finished over a length ahead of the rest of the field with a time of 18.214.

Stormy Smith had the call on Lil Kool Lips for trainer Alex Wessels. Bob Urich owns and bred the daughter of Lil Lil Kool Wagon, out of the Cartels Feature mare Imindy.

The third fastest qualifier, Ryders Dream, won the first trial with a time of 18.341. David Pinon was aboard the Talkalota Bull gelding for trainer Manny Campos.

Ryders Dream ($13.60) is owned and bred by Leonard Reed out of Indian Dream, by Indian Territory. He was one of just two horses across both trials with a previous lifetime out; Ryders Dream had made three previous starts at Remington and Canterbury but broke his maiden in Sunday’s trial.
