One Flyin Foose Prevails in Far West Futurity at Grants Pass

GRANTS PASS, OR—OCTOBER 13, 2019 —Second fastest qualifier One Flyin Foose closed to edge out fastest qualifier Maximo II in the feature Quarter Horse race of the day at Grants Pass, the $34,150 Far West Futurity.

The final time for the 350-yard stake was 17.374; the winner earned a 107 speed index.

One Flyin Foose ($6.60) was ridden by Jaime Lopez for trainer Freddy Ibarra. They won their trial, the first of two, on September 22 and were the second fastest qualifiers.

One Flyin Foose is bred and owned by Matt Huse in Oregon, by Foose and out of One Famous Strawfly, by One Famous Eagle. It was the filly’s fifth lifetime win in eight starts; she also won the Prineville Quarter Horse Futurity and qualified for the Pot O’Gold Futurity at Sun Downs as well as the Grants Pass Firecracker Futurity earlier this summer. The stakes win raised her career earnings to $32,476.

Fastest qualifier Maximo II had the early lead before being passed by the winner and finished a neck behind in second place. The Concorde’s Appeal gelding was the post-time favorite after winning his trial as the fastest qualifier in 17.718.

J. Luis Torres retained the call on Maximo II in the final for trainer Jose Rosales Gomez and owner Uriel Arreola. He was bred in Idaho by Vicente Treyes Valencia, out of Race to Riches, by Bono Jazz.

Maximo II has won five of his nine career starts and is a multiple stakes winner with wins in overnight futurities at Oneida and Rupert.

In third place, nearly a length behind the two frontrunners, was Running Springs and jockey Jake Samuels. Running Springs finished third in her trial behind Maximo II and was the fourth overall fastest qualifier.

Running Springs is trained by Hector Magallanes for owner Chris Pillbrook. She was bred in California by Steve Burns, DVM, by Separate Interest and out of the graded stakes winning mare Running Bac, by Splash Bac.

Completing the field were Royal Pay Bac, Cartel Bob, Fooses Flyer, Cm Smokin Ocean and Gc Lucky Cartel Dude.
