Eye Work For You Tops Friday Night Qualifying For The Remington Park Futurity

Eye Work For You Tops Friday Night Qualifying For The Remington Park Futurity

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 3, 2020—The same combination that brought you last year’s $3 million All American Futurity winner, Mr Jess Jenkins – trainer Marcos Carrizales and jockey James Flores – might just have another 2-year-old runner that is lightning fast.

Eye Work for You put up a sparkling time of :16.663 seconds in his 330-yard trial for the restricted Grade 1, $891,900 Remington Park Futurity, in the fourth race. The effort stood up as the fastest time of the night. The top five from tonight and the top five from 10 trials on Saturday night will complete the field of 10 finalists that will run back on Saturday, April 18.

All 10 trials Friday were conducted over a fast track with temperatures in the high 30s with northerly tailwinds ranging from 10-14mph.

Eye Work for You is a 2-year-old gelding, who got to the wire first as the odds-on betting favorite at 1-2 odds, by a half-length over runner-up Dangerous Cartel. The winner is a son of champion sire Coronas Leaving You, out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Eye Love It. He is owned by Jose E. Guzman of Donna, Texas.

Eye Work for You was bred in Oklahoma by Jose Acosta. This youngster has been to the track three times now and has never been worse than first when he came to the wire. On Feb. 20, he won his training race, going 250 yards in a good time of :13.92, but was nowhere near the fastest of the day.

When he was entered for his first career official race against maidens on March 13, he didn’t let a sloppy track bother him, going to the front immediately at 6-1 odds and Flores got him home in :13.106 seconds for 250 yards, showing strong improvement from his training race. On Friday night, he did it again and will be one to beat in the finals.

First Lucy Lark, a daughter of third-crop sire Im A Fancy Pyc broke her maiden in the fifth trial, under jockey Jose Vega, when she held off a late rally from Apollitical Gold to set the second fastest time of :16.696 seconds, a 93 speed index .

Rex Brooks conditions the Oklahoma homebred for owner-breeder Dustin R. Cox. Cox won the 2014 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity with First Lucy Lark's sire Im A Fancy Pyc. The sorrel filly is out of First Ginlark by My First Moon. She was second in her maiden start March 8th and has banked $14,364.

Apollitical Gold held on for the third fastest time of :16.707 seconds, also a 93 speed index. Eddie D. Willis saddled the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess form the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Src Gold. The Grant R. Cox Revocable Trust is the owner-breeder. Justine Klaiber was riding.

A Dash Of Sign, a $125,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate racing for Reliance Ranches LLC won the posted the fourth fastest time of :16721 seconds, also a 93 speed index, off a one-length win in the opening trial.

Mike Robbins conditions The Mixer Ranch Oklahoma-bred daughter of champion Tempting Dash from the graded stakes winner A Tres Of Paint by Tres Seis. Under champion jockey James Flores, A Dash Of Sign got her first win in two starts.

The aforementioned Dangerous Cartel held on to the bubble time of: 16.740 seconds, a 92 speed index, from the fourth trial for the rest of the evening. Terry Underwood trains the colt by third-crop sire Coronado Cartel for owner Bill W. Underwood. Jerry Bailey bred the bay colt from the Leaving Memories mare Dangerous Dawn. Gonzalo Gutierrez was riding.
