OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 25, 2020—Love Is Everything V's jockey Jimmy Brooks said his horse was distracted by mud puddles on the Remington Park racetrack, but finally focused enough to win his third stakes race in a row, taking the $45,000 Jack Brooks Stakes on Monday.

"That 7-horse (Wagons Dash) left there running," Brooks said, who won for leading trainer Eddie Willis. "My horse was looking at the puddles on top of the track and I finally got him to switch leads and he took off and we caught her."

Brooks was referring to jockey Justine Klaiber, who had another Eddie Willis horse on the lead, Wagons Dash. The puddles were a result of sometimes heavy rain that fell throughout the holiday program forcing a sloppy track.

"She was ahead of us the whole way it felt like," Brooks said. "I didn't even know I had got her at the wire."

But he did, and Love Is Everything V got his head to the wire first in the 350-yard stakes race. The 3-year-old gelded son of One Valiant Hero, out of the One Famous Eagle mare Echoes of Love, made it three consecutive stakes wins, also capturing the $232,600 Oklahoma Derby on March 21 and the $48,500 Mr Master Bug Stakes on April 18.

"He wasn't really running when he was looking at the water holes," said Brooks. "He had a bit of a hoof problem last year after winning the Rainbow Futurity trials at Ruidoso Downs. But he is running as good as he ever has right now."

Love Is Everything V stopped the timer 17.319 seconds for a speed index of 96 and was sent off as the heavy wagering favorite at 3-5 odds. He just happened to get in front by a head over his stablemate, Wagons Dash (23-1) at the wire. Relentless Jessie (31-1) ran third, another neck behind the runner-up. Last year's Heritage Place Futurity winner, Uptowne Babe (11-1) finished a disappointing seventh.

It was Love Is Everything V's sixth win in only 13 starts lifetime. He won $24,600 from the purse for owner James Sills of Cedar Hill, Texas. The victory improved his record to 13 starts, six wind, three seconds and one third for $244,676 in his bankroll. He was bred in Oklahoma by Valeriano Racing Stables.

Love Is Everything V paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.20 across the board in the race. Willis finished first, second and fourth in the race to earn a total of $35,260 for his owners of the $45,000 purse.

Runner-up Wagons Dash matched his stablemate's every step to take home $8,200 for second. Justine Klaiber had the riding call for trainer Willis aboard the Pyc Paint Your Wagon gelding out of Breitling Time by Fishers Dash. Also owned by James Sills, Wagon Dash was bred by Flag Ranch LLC. The multiple stakes-placed Oklahoma-bred has earned $58,065.

Coming off a troubled effort in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby(RG2), Relentless Jessie picked up $4,510 for third. The 3-yaer-old daughter of leading second-crop sire Hes Relentless is owned-and-trained by Manuel Francisco Mata. Bob Moore Farms, LLC bred the G3-placed filly from the Gold Medal Jess mare Jess A Queen. She has earned $104,944.

Ritas Back On Track, Juice Is Loose, Alotalota, Uptowne Babe, Hr Storm On In and Dynasty Cartel completed the field. Ew Train On Fire was scratched.

Despite the dominance on Monday night, Memorial Day, it was the first time any of the connections of Love Is Everything V had won the Jack Brooks Stakes.

The race, named in honor of the all-time training great from Blanchard, Okla., a multiple Hall of Famer and eight-time winner of the All American Futurity. Brooks retired from training prior to the start of the 2007 Remington Park season.

Remington Park concludes the 2020 American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season this week with racing Thursday through Saturday, May 28-30. The first race is at 6pm on Thursday and Friday before a special final night start of 5pm on Saturday, May 30. All times are Central.
