Shiza Queen Emerges as Fastest Qualifier to Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity

Shiza Queen Emerges as Fastest Qualifier to Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity

EVANSTON, WY—JULY 12, 2020—After eight trials on Sunday’s card at Wyoming Downs, Shiza Queen proved to be the fastest qualifier to the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity, covering the 330-yard trial distance in :16.818. The final will be held on July 26.

Shiza Queen ($9.20) was a two-length gate-to-wire winner of the third trial. She earned a 93 speed index in the impressive win under jockey Jose Guzman. The Maknmoves filly is trained by Martha Maldonado for owner Pedro Mena.

Mena also bred the filly in Wyoming out of the Proudest Effort mare Uintas Queen. Sunday’s trial was her first career start.

Bigg Brown ($9.00), winner of the sixth trial, was the second fastest qualifier with his time of 17.000 and 87 speed index. He was ridden by Tyson Lusk in the trial, his career debut. Jordan Hadley trains the Choctaw River gelding; Hadley qualified two 2-year-olds to the final on Sunday.

Bigg Brown is bred and owned by Dan and Kim Lapierre, out of Purrfect Eve, by Devon Lane. Purrfect Eve was unraced, but her dam was graded stakes placed.

Third fastest qualifier Als Dynasty ($6.40) was the post-time favorite winner of the fifth race. Jesus Valenzuela had the call for trainer Riley Moosman; Moosman trained three finalists and Valenzuela rode four of the ten qualifiers.

Als Dynasty was a first-time starter for owners Ron Moosman and Kyle Gray. He was bred by Ron and Laurie Moosman, by Jr Dynasty Mountain and out of Bf Pieces of April, by First Prize Perry.
