Botticelli Beach Tops Ten Quarter Horse Training Races at Indiana Grand Today
Indiana Grand hosted 10 training races for 2-year-olds on Thursday. One of three winners for trainer Tony Cunningham was Count Down (inside) battling It Is Over to win the Race 6.

Botticelli Beach Tops Ten Quarter Horse Training Races at Indiana Grand Today

SHELBYVILLE, IN—APRIL 15, 2021—A total of 10 Quarter Horse Training Races were held at Indiana Grand Thursday, April 15. Among the horses entered, nine of the races were dedicated to two-year-olds, giving horsemen and fans a first peek at the talent awaiting the 2021 racing season.

A two-year-old looking good in her training race was Botticelli Beach from the Claudio Barraza barn. The Escondido Beach filly stumbled out of the gate, nearly dropping to her knee and regrouped to power forward and cross the line in front of the field.

She was the only 2-year-old of the day to break 14 seconds, posting a :13.91 clocking for the 250 yards. Barraza also owns the Indiana sired Escondido Beach filly out of Botticelli Shake. Sheri Miller bred Botticelli Beach from the Genuine Botticelli mare Botticelli Shake.

Barraza also sent out Illegal Id, a 2-year-old Coronado Cartel colt who tied for the second fastest time of :14.03 seconds while winning Race 4. Owned by Alberto Valdez, Illegal Id is a $30,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate form the Feature Mr Jess mare Illegal Feature.

Another standout for the day was Bye Bye B Train from the Tony Cunningham barn in the first race who tied for the second fastest clocking of :14.03 seconds. The freshman colt by world champion sire Freighttrain B led the 250-yard sprint from gate to wire with L.D. Martinez aboard.

Pamela Hann is owner breeder of Indiana-bred colt out of Bye Bye Corona by Too Tough To Catch.

Cunningham also saddled two other winners on the card, Party Time Beach in the second race and Count Down in the sixth race.

Party Time Beach is an Escondido Beach gelding out of Silly Chix by Shazoom, stopped the timer in :14.09 seconds. Count Down, a freshman filly by Ivory James, led from gate to wire with L.D. Martinez aboard while finishing the 250 yards in :14.20 seconds.

Cunningham and Martinez have teamed up thus far in two days of live race action, winning both Quarter Horse races. The duo connected with Beach Shakin on the season opener followed by a win from CC Moonflash on Wednesday, April 14. Both horses are owned by Pamela Hann, who co-owns Beach Shakin with her husband Daniel under Fasttrac Racing.

Quarter Horse Training Races are set for the next two Thursdays at Indiana Grand. The sessions will begin at 11:30 a.m. with entries into the event due to the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana on the Tuesday prior to each event.
