Leading Sire First Timber Dominates Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity Trials

EDMONTON, ALB—JUNE 11, 2021—Canada's leading sire First Timber sired six of the 10 qualifiers today in two trials contested for the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity at Century Mile Racetrack.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Century Mile Racetrack on Friday, July 2nd to vie for the winner's share of a $56,997 purse going 300 yards.

Under jockey Alfredo Amador, Bearcat Bill broke his maiden at first asking in the opening trial to get the fastest qualifying time. The Alberta home-bred son of First Timber, racing for owner-breeders Barry and Janice Sather, defeated Destello de Luna by three-quarters to post the top mark of :16.192 seconds into a 15 mph crosswind.

Trainer Misael Moreno saddled the bay gelding from the Volcom mare Splashy Mamacita. He earned $3,505(US) of the $6,821(US) trial purse.

Runner-up Destello de Luna held on for the second fastest time of :16.345 seconds. Trainer William Leech named Ricardo Moreno to ride the Lethal N First gelding for owners Jane Leech and Haley Moreno. Also making his career debut in the trials, Destello de Luna is out of the Toast To Dash mare A Mere Toast. Ken McFarlane is the breeder.

The opening trial produced the four fastest qualifiers including 3rd fastest O First Sweet Heart (:16.379) and 4th fastest First Authority (:15.655), both 2-year-olds are by First Timber.

William Leech and Ricardo Moreno teamed again in the second trial with Obsessed Bug to get the 5th fastest qualifying time of :16.728 seconds into a 15 mph crosswind.

Obsessed Bug, a son of Obsessed With Corona from the multiple stakes producing Shazoom mare Paulina Bug, races for owner Jacqueline Reay. Ralph Danard is the breeder of the first time starter.

First Golden Rose, a daughter of First Timber, finished neck back to get the 6th fastest time of :16.777 seconds. Jockey Alfredo Amador has the riding call aboard the bay filly for trainer Misael Moreno and owner-breeder Isaak Fehr. First Golden Rose is out of the Corona Cartel mare Madam Goldilocks.
