O First Sweet Heart Springs Upset in $45,825(US) Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity at Century Mile

O First Sweet Heart Springs Upset in $45,825(US) Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity at Century Mile

EDMONTON, AB—JULY 2, 2021—The Friday evening card at Century Downs kicked off with a pair of Quarter Horse stakes, beginning with a big price as O First Sweet Heart ($35.50) upset the field in the $45,825(US) Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity.

Larris Allen rode O First Sweet Heart to a one and one-half length victory in the 300-yard final. The filly earned a 91 speed index for her time of :15.619.

O First Sweet Heart was the third fastest qualifier from two trials on June 11 and was one of six qualifiers sired by leading Canadian First Timber. The Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity was restricted to 2-year-olds sired by participating stallions.

She finished third in her trial, also her first start in her native Alberta after three starts at Remington. The Stallion Stakes Futurity was her first career win. The $20,621(US) winner's purse boosted her bankroll to $22,488.

O First Sweet Heart is owned by Jeffrey Rath and is trained by her breeder, Wesley Oulton. She is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Eyesa Perry.

Fifth fastest qualifier Obsessed Bug finished second by head over third place finisher Destello de Luna.

Obsessed Bug was ridden by Corrine Andros for trainer William Leech and owner Travis Reay. She was bred in Alberta by Ralph Danard, by Obsessed with Corona and out of Paulina Bug, by Shazoom.

Obsessed Bug debuted in her trial and is one for two lifetime. She picked up $7,791IUS) for the effort.

Destello de Luna was the second fastest qualifier after finishing second in his trial behind fastest qualifier Bearcat Bill.

Ricardo Moreno had the call for trainer William Leech and owners Jane Leech and Haley Moreno. He also debuted in his trial for the Stallion Stakes Futurity and earned $4,583(US) in the final.

Ken McFarlane bred the Lethal N First gelding in Alberta, out of A Mere Toast, by Toast to Dash.

Completing the field were fastest qualifier Bearcat Bill, First Golden Rose, Obsessive, Archie Royal First, Not Good Enough and A Verygood Moonshine. First Authority was scratched.
