EDMONTON, AB—JULY 2, 2021—Big payouts continued at Century Mile on Friday night as Jagnestimber pulled off a massive upset at 70-1 in the $26,081(US) Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby.

Jagnestimber ($141.40) was not the longest shot in the field, but her odds rose thanks to heavy post-time favorite Eyesa Timber, the impressive fastest qualifier. Both Jagnestimber and Eyesa Timber made up ground in the race and arrived at the wire separated by a neck.

The final time for the 330-yard stake was 17.326. Jagnestimber earned an 80 speed index, while Eyesa Timber and third place finisher Bigtime Knockout each earned a 78 index in the close photo finish.

Jagnestimber earned her first stakes win in Friday’s performance as the tenth fastest qualifier. She qualified to three stakes as a 2-year-old, including the Canada Cup Futurity (G3) last October. She is two for seven lifetime, all at Century Mile, with $18,515 earned.

The First Timber filly is trained and owned by Joe Halerewich; Adrian Gonzalez was in the irons. She was bred in Alberta by Halerewich, McCurdy and Campkin, out of the First Down Dash mare Gilded Gold.

Fastest qualifier and multiple stakes winner Eyesa Timber placed second with J. B. Botello up. The First Timber gelding is a triple play for owner, breeder and trainer Wesley Oulton, who bred the gelding in Alberta out of Eyesa Perry, by Mr Jess Perry.

Eyesa Timber’s full younger sister O First Sweet Heart won the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity in the previous race.

Eyesa Timber has earned $67,225 in 10 career starts at Century Mile, Los Alamitos, Canterbury and Remington Park. He qualified to the MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury before winning the Alberta Bred Futurity and the Canada Cup Futurity (G3). In May, he raced in the Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge.

Third place finisher Bigtime Knockout was the third fastest qualifier; he finished second in his trial, nearly three lengths behind Eyesa Timber.

Bigtime Knockout was ridden by Martin Ortiz for trainer Buckey Stockwell. He is an Alberta homebred for Glenn Willis, by Teller Im Bigtime and out of the This Snow is Royal mare Royal Knockout.

Bigtime Knockout has made all eight of his career lifetime starts at Century Mile. He qualified to the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity and the Alberta Bred Futurity last year and has earned $13,662 to date.

Completing the field were Timbers Express, Ulnvme, Northforkhigh, Bound too Be First, Jess Be First, Shamoura and Royale Runaway.
