Light Footed Gets Up To Win GP 440 Stakes

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALB—AUGUST 21, 2021—Light Footed, under jockey Jose Rocha, got up at the wire to defeat Double Cruise by a neck in the $7,486(US) GP 440 Stakes (not black type) Saturday afternoon at Evergreen Park.

Light Footed completed the 440 yards in :22.310 seconds, equaling a 92-speed index into a15 mph crosswind. It was the fourth career win in 10 starts for the daughter of multiple stakes sire Stel Corona.

Trainer William Leech saddled the winner for owner Charles Stojan. Bred in California by Edward C. Allred, Light Footed is out of the First Down Dash mare Chickafirst. Last year she won the Evergreen Park Derby Challenge. Light Footed has compiled a (10) 4-3-1 record and used the $3,968(US) GP 440 winner's purse to bring her earnings mark to $48,820.

Also a multiple stakes winner, runner-up Double Cruise earned $1,946(US) for second. The son of Bd Cruiser races for owner-trainer and breeder Tom Kenway. Martin Ortiz rode the 4-year-old out of Eye Cruise by Eye Take Time. Double Cruise has earned $62,623.

Getit Foose, a stable mate of winner Light Footed, finished 1-˝ lengths back to pick up $898 for third. William Leech conditions the multiple stakes-placed son of Foose for owner Charles Stojan. Martha Wells bred Getit Foose in California from the Separatist mare Getit Together. Corrine Andros was aboard the $27,941 earner.

Honor The Fast Man, Chasin Harm, Stripsteak, Rj Fly Bye and Big Handsome completed the field.
