HOBBS, NM—DECEMBER 5, 2021—Why Buy The Cow settled early before splitting horses and edging to a three-quarter length win in the $50,000 Grade 3 King Rick Rack Stakes Sunday afternoon at Zia Park.

Under jockey Tracy Herbert, Why Buy The Cow completed the 870 yards in :45.878 seconds, equaling a 94 speed index. It was the sixth career win in 29 starts for the 6-year-old son of champion sire Heza Motor Scooter.

Kenneth Durbin saddled the New Mexico-bred gelding for owner Carrol Durbin. Runner-up in the New Mexico Classic Cup 870 Championship in his last start, October 31st, Why Buy The Cow picked up $30,000 to bring his earnings mark to $283,514. Mike Weatherly bred Why By The Cow from the Celadon mare Southwest Treasure.

Coming off a runner-up effort in the Grade 1 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship at Albuquerque October 23rd, Oklahoma-bred Madewell earned $10,000 for finishing second. Bernard Baca trains the multiple graded stakes winner for owner-breedesr Ray and Davy Madewell. Out of the A Streak Of Cash mare Streakin Peacock, the 7-year-old son Jess Jones has earned $343,472. Maria Baca was up.

Coming off an Allowance win at Albuquerque September 16th, My Onetime Corona stepped-up to stakes competition for the first time in his career to finish half-a-length back in third. Omar Vargas saddled the 4-year-old son of a leading third-crop sire Kiss My Hocks for owner Abel Chavez. Bred by Flag Ranch LLC and ridden by Paul Nieto, My Onetime Corona picked up $5,000 to bring his earnings total to $51,415. The Oklahoma-bred is out of One Corona At A Time by One Famous Eagle.

Breaking New Ground, My Bucket Is Full and Dan The Flashman completed the field. El Tarasco 727 was scratched.
