Apollitical Papa Scores Second Consecutive Stakes Win In Zia Park QH Championship Victory

HOBBS, NM—DECEMBER 5, 2021—Bob and Sissie McClure's Oklahoma homebred Apollitical Papa got his second consecutive stakes win Zia Park on Sunday when he won the Grade 1 $100,000 Zia Park QH Championship.

Under jockey Noe Garcia, Jr., Apollitical Papa finished one-length ahead of Marcus Medallion while completing the 440 yards on :21.625 seconds, a 101 speed index into a 12 mph headwind. Last month the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess was 1-¼ lengths winner of the Grade 2 James Issac Hobbs Stakes at Zia Park.

Longtime trainer Fred Danley saddled Apollitical Papa to his seventh in in 27 starts. The 4-year-old picked up $58,800 for today's effort, bringing his earnings total to $212,952. Bob and Sissie McClure bred the multiple graded stakes winner from the Tres Seis mare Sissys Tres Girl.

Marcus Medallion, an 8-year-old graded stakes winning son of Jesse James Jr, earned $19,600 for second. Owned-and-trained by Jaime Aldavaz, Sr., the New Mexico-bred gelding was ridden by jockey Manuel Gutierrez. Carl Jason Bailey bred the $402,403 earner from the Mr Houston mare Houstons Medallion.

Kj Frankie B was a nose back in third for owners John and Kathy Lee and Ruben Mares. Wesley Giles conditions the Apollitical Jess 4-year-old out of Xquzit by Ivory James. John Kahy Lee bred the graded stakes winner in Arizona. Adrian Ramos rode the $173,240 earner.

Flashing Moolah, Tough To Bee, Bella Faccia and Don Chuy C completed the field.
