Charlies Fury Takes $25,500 OQHRA Fall Classic Stakes For 2nd Consecutive Year Running

CLAREMORE, OK–SEPTEMBER 26, 2022–Charlies Fury takes the victory in the $25,500 OQHRA Fall Classic Stakes at Will Rogers Downs for the second consecutive year in a row on Monday afternoon. The 400-yard stakes race for 3-year-old and up quarter horses was ran on a fast track with a 6 mph crosswind.

Due to their previous year’s success, trainer Michelle Hurdle sent jockey Agustin Silva and Charlies Fury off as the post-time favorites to win. The duo didn’t disappoint with a near wire-to-wire victory by 1/2-length over Dangerous Cartel in :19.925 seconds, clocking a 93 speed index.

The OQHRA Fall Classic is the fifth of five starts this season in stakes competition and the second win for Charlies Fury, including the Mr Jet Moore Stakes at Remington Park. The son of Furyofthewind has lit the board 25 of 30 starts with 12 career wins and $438,864 in the bank.

Bred and owned by Tom and Kathleen McNally of Oklahoma, Charlies Fury is out of Jess Charlena by Take Off Jess

Dangerous Cartel, ridden by Bryan Candanoso, fought hard for the finish, crossing the wire in second a half-length ahead of Bp Primetime and Jk Wildcat Red who were a deadheat for third. 

Guillermo Valdivia saddled Dangerous Cartel for owner Marvin Fuentes. The son of Coronado Cartel has three career wins with $214,685 in earnings. Bred by Jerry Bailey of Oklahoma, the 4-year-old colt is out of Dangerous Dawn by Leaving Memories.

Bp Primetime, guided by James Flores, was a deadheat for third. Trained by Buddy Clay, the son of Im A Fancy Pyc has four career wins and has earned $86,921 for owner H E Racing, LLC. 

Breeder Bill Price of Oklahoma sold Bp Primetime for $9,500 in the 2019 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The 4-year-old gelding is out of BP Southern Mariah by Southern Cartel.

Jk Wildcat Red, with Eugenio Navarrete, Jr in the irons, was also in a deadheat for third. The 7-year-old gelding trained by Victor Ibarra, has 10 career wins, including two stakes wins this year, including the Fair Meadows Maturity and the Boyd Morris Stakes (G2). 

Bred by Jk Running Horses, LLC of Oklahoma, Jk Wildcat Red has earned $225,566 for his owner Regina Laymon and is out of Shaky Girl by Embrujo FG.

The remaining order of finish is Presidential Embrace, Df Storm Tales, Relentless Jessie and Corona Relentless.
