TQHA Yearling Sale Gross Up, Average Slightly Down -- CORRECTED STORY

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 28, 2012—Preliminary numbers for the just concluded two-day TQHA Yearling Sale showed gross receipts up, due to more horses sold, and the average slightly off from 2011.

First look results for the auction included a gross of $2,380,100 for the 262 horses that were sold. The average was $9,084 and the median $5,500 as compared to a $9,325 average in 2011 and a $6,000 median.

Rick Crosby purchased the sale's high-seller, Viva Sin Tacha for $92,000 from Todd Antonuk, Agent for Bob and Jerry Gaston, in the first session. The First Down Dash colt is out of the Grade 1 placed Miss Sin Tacha, a Mr Jess Perry mare, who finished third in the Heritage Place Futurity and earned more than $196,500. She is a half-sister to world champion Streakin Sin Tacha ($692,842) and a full sister to Grade 3 winner Sin Tacha Perry ($115,123), etc. Her first foals are two-year-olds of 2012 that have not started.

The second high-seller, also a First Down Dash colt, sold on the first day but was previously recorded as a repurchase. Bielau Oaks sold Daytona B to Gregorio Garza for $80,000. He is the third foal of the restricted Grade 2 winner Dashing Pana, a winner of 12 races and $277,139. The second dam also produced Grade 3 winner Tiny Chris La Jolla ($164,577) and is the granddam of multiple RG2 winner Jes A Game ($323,978), etc.

Terry and Irene Stenett purchased the sale's third high seller, Taking Flite, during Saturday's session. The One Famous Eagle colt consigned by Bobby D. Cox brought a final bid of $77,000. Out of a full sister to Grade 3 winner A Down Right Runaway ($108,203) and half-sister to G1 placed Dominyun ($336,180),Taking Flite is a three-quarter brother Stakes winner Jesstifable ($81,857) and RG2 placed Perryphery ($48,092).

The Stenett's were the sales leading buyers by gross with two yearlings for $127,000. Other buyers with more than one purchase included Michel & Beth Harper who had two for $67,000 and Laurie Deleu with 11 head for $58,400.

Bobby Cox led all consignors with 20 head totaling $371,500. Granada Farms, Agent had 14 sell for $125,600, Bielau Oaks followed with four head bringing $108,000.

First Down Dash was the leading sale sire with two head averaging $86,000, followed by Mr Jess Perry with six for $37,000 and leading first crop sire One Famous Eagle had nine bring $22,178.
