LQHBA just completed their 36th annual Louisiana Breeders' Yearling Sale at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder.

Preliminary results showed the average price paid for a yearling in Louisiana this year rose to $8,904 as compared to $8,241 in 2011. The Median hit $5,700 compared to $5,200 last year.

The 327 yearlings marked sold grossed $2,911,700 as compared to 319 that brought $2,692,000 last year. Of the 505 head cataloged, there were 38 outs and 138 yearlings that did not bring their reserve.

Of the top 10 selling yearlings, nine were colts and one a gelding. Im Jess Blue brought the highest price of $56,000 from Kimberly and Herman Hogue. Natalie Montgomery, DVM consigned the gray Jess Louisiana Blue colt from the Mr Eye Opener mare In The Open. Im Jess Blue is a half-brother to 2012 2-year-olds Surf N Turf Dude ($28,778) runner up in the Four Corners Futurity(G3) and Open Me A Corona ($14,107) a finalist in the Laddie Futurity(RG2). The second dam produced El Primero Del Ano Derby(G2) winner Ocean Cartel ($186,103), stakes winner Special Ela ($49,166) and stakes-placed Mimi Cartel ($49,035).

TM Ranch purchased the second high-selling yearling, Fast Black Prize from Weetona Stanley for $49,000. The colt by first crop sire and RG1 winner Jet Black Patriot is out of the a Corona Cartel half-sister to former world record holder and West Texas Futurity(G1) winner Fast Prize Zoom ($192,875), Harrah's Futurity(G3) placed Fast Prize Doll ($85,762) and Joe B Turner Memorial placed Fast Prize Tracy ($40,960). The second dam is Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Fast First Prize ($244,929), a full sister to leading sire Heza Fast Dash ($136,123).

Donald Aymond and David Bates, Jr. sold the second high-seller, Jess Leaving Coronas to Bobby Barnett for $48,000. The colt by first crop sire and G2 winner Coronas Leaving You is a half-brother to RG1 placed Heza Fast Perry ($112,684). He is out of a Mr Jess Perry half-sister to stakes winner Silver Masquerade ($56,452) and the dam of G3 winner XO Kate ($242,302 to 5, 2012), etc.

TM Ranch was the sale's leading buyer with six head for $135,000. Mary Thompson had four yearling purchases for $92,900 and Eric Johnson signed the ticket on three head for $89,000.

Grant Farms, LLC was the sale's leading consignor with 12 head for $197,700 followed by Robicheaux Ranch, Inc. , Agent, who sold 14 head for $175,900. Jumonville Farms sold six for $127,500 and Donald Aymond and David Bates, Jr., had four head for $90,500.

Game Patriot led all sale sires by average with 17 yearlings at $17,535, followed by Jess Louisiana Blue with 10 for $16,960 and Coronas Leaving Your with 15 for $16,713. Fast Prize Dash was the leading first sale crop sire with 11 head averaging $6,064.
