OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—SEPTEMBER 19, 2013—A Corona Cartel colt out of Grade 1 winner and stakes producer Wild Six was purchased by Thomas H. Bradbury for $122,000 at Thursday's opening session of the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale.

The colt, the most expensive yearling sold through 280 head at this year's September sale was consigned by Marty Powers Agent for Lee & Sherwood Racing, LLC. Wild Six, by Tres Seis, won the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso and is the dam of 4 ROM including 2013 Heritage Place Juvenile runner-up Wild And Game. Leading sire Corona Cartel was also the leading first day sale sire.

Preliminary numbers reported from Thursday's session were 228 of the 277 head sold for a $2,765,000 gross. The average was $12,127 and the median was $7,700.

"We had a very active crowd on hand for the pre-sale party yesterday evening and the sale today," Heritage Place General Manger Spence Kidney said following the first session. "The market was steady today with numbers almost mirroring last year’s average. We sold 86% of the horses offered today and we look forward to a great second day of the sale."

Andrew T. Smith paid $100,000 for a One Famous Eagle three-quarter brother to his 2013 Rainbow Derby(G1) and Ruidoso Derby(G1) winner Wicked Courage. The colt out of Wicked Pamela, by Dash For Cash, was consigned by 6666 Ranch, Agent. Two years ago Smith purchased Wicked Courage in the same sale for $4,000. The Captain Courage gelding rattled off a nine-race win streak earlier this year and has earned $1,132,668.

Sunset Well Services purchased the third high-seller Friday, a Mr Jess Perry filly out of Tiny First Effort, by First Down Dash, for $90,000 from the 6666 Ranch, Agent for Burnett Ranches consignment.

Thomas Bradbury led first day buyers by gross with the one purchase for $122,000. Rachuan Suarez MVZ bought 12 head for $103,800 and Andrew T. Smith had the one for $100,000.

Lazy E Ranch, LLC Agent led first day consignors and agents with 10 head totaling $168,200. 6666 Ranch, Agent had five head for $152,100 and James Ranch, Inc. Agent for Weetona Stanley sold six head for $151,700.

As mentioned previously, Corona Cartel led first session sale sires by average (two or more sold) with two yearlings averaging $81,000. Mr Jess Perry had four yearlings average $49,250 and all-time leading first crop sire One Famous Eagle had four for $39,375. World champion Apollitical Jess was the leading first crop sale sire with two head averaging $25,000.

The sale's second session will begin promptly at 10:00 am Friday with hips 281 through 560. Saturday's session includes hips 561 through 839.

Heritage Place is an approved Off-Track-Betting facility, so there will be lots of racing in the club tomorrow including the Dash for Cash Derby trials from Lone Star Park tomorrow evening.

Immediately following Friday's session the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association (OQHRA) will host a horseman's reception in the Heritage Place Restaurant and Club.
