Champion Stakes Sire Sixarun Euthanized

PILOT POINT, TX—AUGUST 13, 21014—Texas-based sire Sixarun was euthanized August 12th at Valor Farm near Pilot Point, Texas. The 31-year-old pensioned stallion had lived at the farm for over 20 years.

“Sixarun was well-loved, but we knew that he wouldn’t be around forever. At no point did we want him to suffer as a result of his age. When he began to have trouble getting around, we knew that it was time to let him go,” said Farm Manager, Donny Denton. “His longevity can be attributed to our Stallion Manager, Isidro Chavira, who has taken such great care of him over the years.”

Sixarun was bred by L. D. Neumayer and Don Brooks in Hereford, Texas. The sorrel son of Streakin Six was purchased by Preston Carter and R. W. Boston and raced as a 2, 3, and 4-year-old, earning $291,228. His achievements include a win in the TQHA Texas Futurity(G3), San Jose H. and Half Moon Bay H., 2nd in the Doc Severinsen H.(G3), 3rd in the Rainbow Futurity(G1) and 4th in the All American Futurity(G1) and Kansas Futurity(G1).

Sixarun entered stud in Sterling City, Texas in 1988 under the ownership of Don McDonald, DVM. He was moved to Valor Farm in 1993. His ownership varied between Dr. McDonald, Hal Phenix and Charles Albrecq until Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. purchased him in 1994.

Consistently among the leading sires of Quarter Horse runners, Sixarun sired Champion Tres Seis, who ran 2nd in the All American Futurity(G1) and whose son Ochoa ($2,762,615) is the All-Time Leading Money-Earning Quarter Horse. Blues Girl Too ($2,032,328), the All-Time Leading Money-Earning Quarter Horse filly, is out of a daughter of Sixarun.

He was a full brother to champion 2-year-old filly Sixy Chick and multiple stakes producer Wasting No Time.

Sixarun was pensioned from stud in late 2003. He was a favorite at Valor Farm, known for his kindness and gentle temperament. He was buried in the Valor Farm cemetery.
