The Marfa Lights Commits To Lazy E

GUTHRIE, OK—SEPTEMBER 20, 2017—Mike and Beth Harper have announced that The Marfa Lights, their $566,493 earning son of leading sire One Famous Eagle, will begin his breeding career in 2018 at Lazy E Ranch.

The three-year-old son of One Famous Eagle was second by a neck to Imperial Eagle in last year’s $3 million All American Futurity G1 after being the 2nd fastest 1st day qualifier and was fourth in this year’s $1.4 million All American Derby G1.

Butch Wise of Lazy E Ranch said "His nearly 3 length All-American Futurity trial win was one of the most impressive races at Ruidoso in 2016 and his 2nd place finish to Imperial Eagle in the finals only increases his reputation in my eyes. You have to respect stallions that can get a quarter of a mile at 2 years of age."

The Marfa Lights was shipped to trainer Mike Robbins at Los Alamitos in early September and is expected to next compete in the $125,000 Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Championship G1 on October 15.

Robbins, who won the Champion of Champion in 1983 with World Champion Sgt Pepper Feature, in 1984 with World Champion Dashs Dream and in 1991 with World Champions Special Leader, hopes to get The Marfa Lights in the December 16 edition of the $750,000 race.

"This is an outstanding horse, and I am delighted the Harpers sent him to us for his fall campaign," said Robbins. We have a month to get him ready for the Bob Boniface and then two months before the Champion of Champions. The timeline should work out just fine."

The Marfa Lights is a full brother to the 2016 Champion Aged Stallion and 3-time 440-yard track record setter Moonin The Eagle $548,985 and a half-brother to 4-time Champion Moonist $878,468.

The Marfa Lights and Moonin The Eagle are both out of 2-time Champion Your First Moon $750,726, a First Down Dash mare that won the Los Alamitos Million Futurity G1. She is a full sister to G1 winner Not A Full Moon $271,962 G1 and, multiple G1 placed Sunset Dash $250,795 G1.

This is the Vessels family of Champions: Hateful Hanna, Hardly Hateful, Old Habits, Solvency and Special Leader and such leading sires as Mr Eye Opener and Check Him Out.

Butch Wise of Lazy E Ranch said, "One Famous Eagle has proven himself rather quickly with three All-American Futurity winners and this horse comes from one of the breed’s most powerful female families. The Marfa Lights should especially fit mares sired by Corona Cartel and his sons like PYC Paint Your Wagon and Ivory James. Also, mares by Tres Seis , Strawfly Special and Separatist should fit nicely. The Marfa Lights has a lot to contribute to breeders that wish to incorporate One Famous Eagle through one of his best sons."

The 2018 breeding fee for The Marfa Lights will be announced later this fall. For additional information or breeding contracts call Butch Wise or Matt Witman at 405-282-3437.
