FARMINGTON, NM—MAY 12, 2013—Chin Lee's Carburator dueled Day Of Fame early before pulling away to a half-length victory in the $22,680 Zoetis SunRay Park Starter Allowance Challenge on Sunday afternoon. Sacred Stone finished three–quarters behind the front running pair in the show position.
The 5-year-old Azoom gelding not only added $13,608 to his bankroll of nearly $80,000, he also earned a starting spot on November 9 in the Zoetis Starter Allowance Challenge Championship during the Bank of America Challenge Championship Night at Los Alamitos Race Course.
No stranger to that Southern California racetrack, the Ramon Rivera trainee won three of seven races at Los Alamitos as a two year old and qualified for the Kindergarten Futurity(G2) and the PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity(G2) in 2010.
Alfonso Perez rode Carburator to a :17.527 clocking over the 350 yards in Sunday's Zoetis Starter Allowance.
Johnny Gonzalez owns Day Of Fame, a 6-year-old daughter of Celadon from the Special Leader mare Day Of Confession. Saddled by Guadalupe Munoz, Jr. and ridden by Macario Rodriguez, the bay mare earned $4,762 for her efforts, pushing her career total to nearly $50,000.
Sacred Stone, racing for Rogers Farms, picked up $2,268 for third. Gerald Richards conditions the 7-year-old by The Down Side from the Tolltac mare Six Tac. Ridden by Esgar Ramirez, the Dan and Patricia Baker New Mexico-bred has earned nearly $70,000.
Completing the Zoetis field were Lite A Fire, Gallant Mystic, Wishin Accomplished, Devons Secret Rf and Sweet Pea Rf.
