SELMA, TX—JULY 25, 2014—Retama Park also hosted four trials for the Adequan Retama Derby Challenge. Jerry Windham's homebred Mister Big recorded the fastest time of the evening, covering 400 yards in :20.077.

Trainer Judd Kearl saddled the Shazoom gelding, who captured the $167,300 Sam Houston Derby (G3) as a maiden. Windham had sent him to Ruidoso Downs as a 2-year-old for the Rainbow Futurity trials. His 2-year-old campaign was uneventful, but is showing tremendous potential as a 3-year-old. He is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess An Illusion.

Mister Big paid $29 to win in his Sam Houston Derby win; tonight at Retama Park, he paid just $3.00.

The runner-up in his trial, Robert B. Roark's Miss Ketel Cameo, recorded the second fastest qualifying time of the evening, :20.099 under rider Damien Martinez.

Mister Big was ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo, who also qualified Lindsayshadowdancer, a Valiant Hero filly owned by King Camden Running Horses, Inc. and trained by Kearl.

Miss Ketel Cameo is a daughter of two-time champion Ketel Won from the Cameronian mare Ima Miss Cameo. She the first of four finalists for trainer Trey Wood.

The ten finalists will return on Saturday, August 9 with the winner earning a berth in the $200,000 Adequan Challenge Championship (G1) at Prairie Meadows on October 18.
