Sizzling Mr Perry Rolls To Top Adequan Derby Trial Time at Prairie Meadows

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 29, 2014—Sizzling Mr Perry, owned-and-trained by Rodrigo Covarrublas, rolled to a 1¼ length trial win Friday night at Prairie Meadows to set the top qualifying mark for the Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the two trial races, will return to the Iowa raceway on Saturday, September 13 and vie for the winner's share of a $30,000-added purse over 440 yards. Also at stake is a starting spot in the $200,000 Guaranteed Adequan Derby Challenge Championship(G3) to be contested during the Bank of American Challenge Championships set October 18 at Prairie Meadows.

Ridden by jockey Jesus Salazar, Sizzling Mr Perry completed his task in :19.685 seconds, earning a 96 speed index into a 10 mph headwind.

It was the third win in 11 starts for the Bobby D. Cox Texas bred son of Mr Jess Perry out of Sizzling Lola, by First Down Dash. He entered the race off an allowance win at Fair Meadows on July 11. The Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby will be his first start against stakes company.

Covarrublas also owns-and-trains second fastest qualifier Wagon Of Roses Lvc, who stepped up from a $15,000 claiming victory at Fair Meadows last month to defeat Daytona B by a nose in the second trial. Also ridden by Salazar, the Pyc Paint Your Wagon gelding completed the 400 yards in :19.805 seconds, a 93 speed index over a muddy course and into a 15 mph headwind.

L.V. Ray and Connie Barnes bred Wagon Of Roses Lvc in Oklahoma from the Holland Ease mare Precocious Rosie. The lightly raced gelding broke his maiden in May at Remington Park and has won all three of this starts this season.

The aforementioned Daytona B was disqualified for interference in the second trial and placed fourth, however he still qualified for the final with the ninth fastest time.
