GRAND PRAIRIE, NM—SEPTEMBER 18, 2014—A toral of 13 fillies and mares have been entered in Saturday’s Merial Lone Star Distaff Challenge trials at Lone Star Park.

Socorro Lopez’s Kateillac is the 7-5 morning-line favorite in the first of two trials. A 3-year-old daughter of Furyofthewind trained by Rodrigo Covarrubias, Kateillac was claimed by her current connections for $10,000 at Fair Meadows at Tulsa on July 23. The filly is coming off of a third-place finish in a 300-yard, $12,000 non-winners-of-three allowance at Prairie Meadows on August 31.

Six Time Special, a homebred sophomore filly by Streakin Sixes racing for Nancy Carrizales from the barn of Edelmiro Carrizales, drew post 6 in the second heat. Six Time Special is coming off of a Retama Park campaign in which she ran third, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Mister Big, in the 400-yard, $49,000 TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby (RG2) on June 28.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Sunday’s trials will meet in the $30,000-added Merial Lone Star Distaff Challenge final on October 4..
