AJAX, ONT—AUGUST 14, 2016—A late run under jockey Cory Spataro propelled Country Boy 123 to a neck victory over Seis Zoom in the $22,231(US) Adequan Ajax Derby Challenge Sunday afternoon at Ajax Downs. In a blanket finish Alakazaam finished a head back but was disqualified for interference—moving Do U Zoom into the third place slot.
After winning three straight races earlier this season, Country Boy 123 finished second by a head to fastest qualifier Alakazaam in the July 31st trials. Today the son of Country Chicks Man redeemed himself to get the win and earn a starting spot in the Grade 3 $200,000 Guaranteed Adequan Derby Challenge Championship at Los Alamitos Race Course October 29th.
Bred in Michigan by Carolyn Bay, Country Boy 123 is our of the Dash Thru Traffic mare Very Dashing 123. The $10,226(US) winners' purse boosted his career total to $33,044.
Don Reid saddled Seis Zoom to a game second place finish for owners Richard Wincikaby and DK Training Centre. Wincikaby and Don Ito bred the daughter of Tres Seis in Oklahoma from the Shazoom mare Eazoom. Ridden by Brian Bell, Seis Zoom earned $4,446(US) for the effort.
Moved into the show position, Do U Zoom earned $2,223(US) for owners Full Circle Racing and Cummings Cattle Co. Greg Watson trains the Jess Zoomin Florida-bred out of Doing Some Winning by Runaway Winner. Jerry Windham is the breeder.
Completing the official order of finish were Fast Buck, Panther Hero Alakazaam, Bubbles Cartel Gal and Platinnum. Dashin Carter and Kool Kinda Ivory were both scratched.
