Perkin Desire Scores Top Mark in John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Trials

ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 3, 2016—Perkin Desire raced to her second straight win with a three-quarter length effort in the last of three trials on Saturday to set the fastest qualifying time for the John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Prairie Meadows on Saturday, September 17th to vie for the winner's share of a $40,000-added purse and to earn a qualifying spot in the Grade 2 $150,000 Guaranteed John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship on October 29th at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Racing for owner/trainer Roberto Gomez, Perkin Desire completed her 350 yard task in :17.973 seconds into a 5 mph head wind to set the top qualifying mark. Ramiro Garcia rode the daughter of champion sire Desirio. She entered the trials off a 1¾ length maiden win on July 24th at Arapahoe Park.

Randall and Kasey Hund bred the bay filly in Colorado from the Dash For Perks mare Fols Perky Cat. She has earned $7,206 in four starts.

Df Girly Girl also got her second career win as well, and the second fastest time of :18.033 seconds, when she defeated Hals Flying Eagle by a head in the second trial. Trainer Miguel Banuelos conditions the Pappasito filly for owner Jesus Alberto Lugo-Vargas. Raul Gutierrez had the riding assignment.

Sammy Hester bred Df Girly Girl in Oklahoma from the Bold Episode mare Bold Aldebaran. The dun filly broke her maiden for a tag at Remington Park on May 30th and fourth in an allowance at Fair Park in her only other start. She has earned $12,618.

Already a stakes winner this season, Faster Than Hasta defeated Aregal Rainbow by a head in the first trial to score the third fastest clocking of :18.055. Robert Don Johnson trains the son of Hasta Be Fast for owner John Johnson.

Cody Smith had the riding call aboard the Warden Quarter Horses' Montana-bred out of Leadmetoyourladder, by Special Leader. Winner of the Minnesota Stallion Breeders' Futurity and runner-up in the North Central QHRA Futurity, Faster Than Hasta has compiled a (6) 2-2-0 record and earned $38,295 this season.
