La Prince Sets Top Mark in Adequan Ajax Derby Trials

AJAX, ONT—JULY 30 2017—Late speed under jockey Julian Serrano boosted Ls Prince to a one-length win in the first of two trials on Sunday for the Adequan Ajax Derby Challenge at Ajax Downs.

The son of Louisiana Senator posted a :20.350 clocking into a 7 mph head wind, a 90 speed index, to set the top qualifying time.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Ajax Downs on Saturday, August 19 to vie for the winners' share of a $20,000-addded purse going 400 yards. Also at stake is a starting spot in the $180,000 Guaranteed Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) October 14th on Bank of America Challenge Championship night at Prairie Meadows.

Trainer Jason Pascoe saddled the top two qualifiers for owner Milena Kwiecien.

Ls Prince, a Texas-bred from the Sixarun mare Princess Sixarun, picked up his third career win in seven starts. Bred by Paris Wixon, the bay gelding has banked $8,840.

In the second trial Pascoe and Kwiecien teamed again with Maryland Magic, a colt by leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon from the All Mitey Dash mare Purley Un Social. Runner-up in the AQHA Maiden Stakes at Ajax on June 18, Maryland Magic completed the 400 yards in :20.470 seconds to secure the second fastest qualifying time.

Ramiro Castillo rode the colt to his second win in 11 starts, boosting his earrings to $20,160. Stephen Harris is the breeder.
