GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—SEPTEMBER 29, 2017—Ricky Ramirez riding for owner/trainer Fernando Carrete guided favorite Zoomin Racer to an exciting 2-˝ length victory in the Grade 3, $31,410 AQHA Distance Challenge Saturday at Lone Star Park.
Final time for the 870-yard race was :45.791 over a muddy (sealed) racetrack. Speed index was 96.
The winner broke last from post seven in the eight-horse field, but quickly dropped to the rail and began making up ground.
Jerry Windham bred the 4-year-old in Texas from the Runaway Winner mare Racing Winner. Zoomin Racer upped his earnings total to $50,074. This was his fourth win from 14 career starts. He will advance to the Grade 1 Distance Challenge Championship at Prairie Meadows on October 14.
Aces Over Five, a colt by Five Demon Bag (TB), finished second for owner/breeder Jerry Chapman and trainer Yoni Martinez. Francisco Calderon rode the 3-year-old gelding out of Achieve A Link by Achievement.
Last year's AQHA Lone Star Distance champ Fire On The Fly finished third under jockey Juan Francisco Garcia, Jr. Owned-and-trained by Tommy Bullard, the son of Jet Cartel is out of the Fight Over (TB) mare Shades Of Pink (TB). Bullard Farms bred the multiple graded winner of more than $215,000 in Texas.
Mutuels paid $5.00, $3.80 and $2.80 for the winner. Longshot Aces Over Five was second and paid $25.60 and $11.40. Fire On the Fly was third and returned $2.80.
Jessa Lil Rusty, Bet I Make U Famous, Cjs Rockhard N Ready, The Field Cricket and Por Amor completed the order of finish.
Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Texas Partners LSP and GG LSP. The track offers a 26-day 2017 Fall Meeting of Champions Season, which opens Friday, September 15 and concludes on Saturday, November 11.
