LETHBRIDGE, ALB—MAY 27, 2018—Coming off a fourth-place finish in the Sun Downs Distaff Challenge earlier this month, Toughie put in a big finish to get a neck in front of Honor The Fast Man in Sunday's $13,056 RMTC Bonus Challenge (not black type) at Lethbridge.
Ridden by jockey Ricardo Moreno, Toughie completed the 350 yards in :17.855 seconds, earning a 96-speed index with a 15 mph tailwind.
Trainer William Leech saddled the 5-year-old graded stakes-winning daughter of Stel Corona, to her 14th career win for owner Charles G. Stojan.
Edward C. Allred bred Toughie in California from the Hawkish mare Hard Lining. With today's $6,920 RMTC Bonus winners' purse the chestnut mare has banked nearly $170,000.
Graded stakes-placed Honor The Fast Man earned $3,395 for second. Owned-trained and bred by Tom Kenway, the 4-year-old gelded son of Honor The Perry is out of Buckle High by Heza Fast Man. Jockey Martin Ortiz was up.
Also a graded stakes winner, Cruisinfourabrusin finished one-length back to take third for owner/breeders Barry and Janice Sather. Janice conditions the 6-year-old First Timber gelding out of Tagulator by Royal Evening Snow. Ridden by Alejandro Almanzan, Cruisinfourabrusin picked up $1,567 to bring his earnings total to $153,091.
Canadian Timber, Dashing By All and Asbigastexas completed the field. Wait was scratched.
