Father's Day at Ajax Downs; Bonus Challenge Derby On Big 9-Race Card

AJAX, ONT—JUNE 14, 2018— A chance to win your own keg party courtesy of Brock Street Brewery is on tap on the popular Father's Day card of Quarter Horse Racing at Ajax Downs Sunday.

Brings the Dads out for an exciting day of racing featuring the 1st running of the $22,800 Bonus Challenge Derby which marks the return of the undefeated Had To Be Ivory, the Ajax Champion 2-year-old male of 2017.

An impressive looking Ontario-bred, Had to Be Ivory breezed through all five of his starts last season and has been strutting his stuff with several sizzling workouts this spring. Racing for owners Carol and Jaime Robertson, the Bryn Robertson trained son of multiple stakes sire Ivory James meets five rivals in the 300-yard Derby including an imposing four-pack from the stable of Pontypool's Jason Pascoe.

Sunday's card also features the first legs of the Sprint Series and Distance series. The top older horse in the province, Country Boy 123, is back and he headlines the 350-yard Distance Series fresh from winning the Picov Maturity two weeks ago. He is son of champion Country Chicks Man racing for owner Ruth Barbour.

The Sprint and Distances Series races offer points to the top finishers with the point leaders being honored at the year-end Quarter Horse Awards. First race post time Sunday is 12:55 p.m.
