AURORA, CO—AUGUST 12, 2018—Multiple stakes winner Faster Than Hasta bumped at the start but recovered nicely, under jockey Alfredo Triana Jr., to defeat Paint Your Eagle by a neck in the $22,900 RMQHA Championship at Arapahoe Park.
Conditioned by trainer Robert Johnson, Faster Than Hasta completed the 400 yards in :19.969 seconds, equaling a 91 speed index into an 8mph headwind.
Bouncing off a fifth-place effort in the Bank of America Canterbury Park Challenge Championship in his last start, Faster Than Hasta races for owner John G. Johnson.
Out of the multiple stakes producing Special Leader mare Leadmetoyourladder, Faster Than Hasta won the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge at 2 and the Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge last year. He was also second in the Grade 3 AQHA Derby Challenge Championship.
Runner-up Paint Your Eagle races for owner Pedro Gutierrez Marquez and trainer Alejandro Chavez. Mauro Salcedo rode the One Dashing Eagle 4-year-old from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Paint Your Beau.
Stepping up in class from a $15,000 claiming victory at Albuquerque July 6th, Paint Your Eagle earned $4,580 to boost his bankroll to nearly $25,000. Tyler Ranch LLC bred the bay gelding in Oklahoma.
Santos Lopez' Hearts Ona Hero finished three-quarter off Paint Your Eagle to earn $2,290 for third.
Miguel Pena trains the Valiant Hero 5-year-old from the Dashin Is Easy mare Dashing Uno. Bred in Oklahoma by Homer Hill, Hearts Ona Hero was ridden by jockey Ramiro Garcia.
Stilldontneednobody, Unforgiven B, Okeyfreight, Air Force Won and Pirate Coves Hero completed the field.
