Pollitical Blood Springs 54-1 Upset in John Deere Juvenile Challenge at Turf Paradise

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 28, 2019— In the third of four stakes races at Turf Paradise on Sunday, Pollitical Blood upset the field in the $40,205 John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge as the longest shot on the board.

Pollitical Blood ($111.40) went off at odds of over 54-1 and had morning-line odds of 20-1 as the tenth fastest qualifier to the final. Two trials determined the field on April 7.

With Jesus Virgen aboard, the winning pair posted a time of 18.267 in the 350-yard Challenge qualifier and earned an 80 speed index. With Sunday’s stakes win, Pollitical Blood now has earnings of $18,524 in two career starts.

Pollitical Blood is a gelded 2-year-old son of first-crop sire Apollitical Blood, and is out of Rita Regent, by the Thoroughbred sire Gold Regent. He is trained by Havid Canez, owned by Juan Clark, and was bred in Louisiana by B & G Group Investments, Inc. Clark purchased Pollitical Blood (sold under the name B And G Blood) in the 2018 LQHBA Yearling Sale for $8,200.

Second place finisher Dynasty Dynamo and jockey Emilio Tapia were in the lead throughout the race before they were caught at the wire by the winner. Dynasty Dynamo was the third fastest qualifier to the final.

Dynasty Dynamo is a son of FDD Dynasty, bred in Texas by Tyler Graham and Franklin Collins out of the Streakin Sixes mare Witchs Streak. The colt is owned by Ricardo Ramirez and is trained by Rigoberto Guillen.

Dynasty Dynamo was on the rail; stablemate Jessapolitical Guy finished third from the far outside.

Jessapolitical Guy is also owned by Ricardo Ramirez and is trained by Rigoberto Guillen, but was bred in Louisiana by Jon and Donna McPherson. He is by Apollitical Jess and out of the Corona Cartel mare Famous Corona Lady, who qualified to the 2014 Ruidoso Futurity (G1) and the 2015 All American Derby (G1). Raul Ramirez, Jr. had the call in Sunday’s final.

Completing the field were Determined Cowboy, Fashioneesta, Heswatchingoveryou, Survivour, Lsglory, Looke At Me and Coronados Choice.
